FEC Rowing Squad Makes Waves at Indoor Regatta

FEC’s rowing squad delivered an impressive performance at the Indoor Regatta held on 20th September, competing alongside more than 400 rowers. With students participating across several age groups and events, the team demonstrated the determination, discipline and teamwork required to succeed in rowing.

FEC secured medals across a range of events. The U15 Girls’ 4 × 500m team claimed gold, while the U13 Girls’ teams earned silver and bronze. The U18 Girls’ 4 × 500m team won bronze, with further medals achieved across the U13 and U25 categories.

According to Rowing Captain Zahra Tayyebi, the team’s preparation involved regular water

sessions, erg training, land circuits and extensive teamwork. She emphasised that rowing requires more than physical endurance, as “everyone has to work together,” making trust and communication essential. She also highlighted the mental challenge of staying calm and focused under pressure during races.

For Grade XI student Nabeeha Sattar, who competed in the U18 Girls’ 4 × 500m and helped secure bronze, preparation involved attending training sessions before school while staying hydrated and properly fuelled. Before the race, she focused on remaining calm and following her strategy. She described the competitiveness of the regatta as one of the hardest aspects of competing.

For Rowing Captain Murad Asim, however, the medals represented more than just results. He

described the medal ceremony as the most memorable moment, but attributed the team’s achievements to their “consistency and dedication.” He noted that the team has become more disciplined and competitive, with improvements in both individual and team performance.

As the season continues, the squad is already looking ahead. Murad hopes the team can build on this year’s results, become stronger and push themselves towards even better performances next year. Their achievements at IBA show that behind every medal is consistent training, teamwork and a willingness to keep improving.
