THE MEDIA CLUB: An Interview by Zaynab Irshad

What happens when you give a group of creative minds a camera?
I am Zaynab Irshad of Class 11-A, and I interviewed the Head, Inaya Imran, and Deputy, Ayra Beiram, of the school's media club. Here are some questions they answered.
What inspired you to start this club?
“My passion for art, design and video editing inspired me to create something that reflected the vibrant student life at FEC. I saw remarkable talent around me, from creative work to personal achievements, and my friends and I felt those moments deserved to be shared and celebrated more widely. We started FEC Unfiltered to show the lively, more personal side of school through students' eyes. By featuring events, extracurricular activities and the societies we helped create, we wanted to recognise students' hard work, encourage others to take part and help more people discover what makes FEC special.”

Why do you think our school needed this?
“Seeing media accounts at other schools made us feel FEC would benefit from a student-led space that brought different parts of school life together. It gives students interested in art, editing or marketing a chance to use their skills on real posts. When we share a society's activities through photos and reels, others can see what it's like, feel encouraged to join and connect with students outside their own class. The page also becomes a record of our time at FEC: an event may last one day, but we can revisit the people, achievements and memories that made it special.”

What are the club members gaining from this experience?
“Through FEC Unfiltered, members gain hands on experience in social media coverage and digital event reporting. The platform gives students a creative outlet to express their ideas by designing artistic graphics, producing eye-catching visuals and editing short-form video content. Alongside media literacy, members build strong confidence in videography, camera presence and visual storytelling. Working behind the scenes also helps them develop crucial real world skills like time management, teamwork and quick coverage during school events.”

How big of a role does teamwork play in creating content?
“Teamwork plays a huge role in our media society because creating quality content is never a one person job. Tasks need to be divided. Some handle filming and photography, while others focus on digital graphics, video editing or writing captions to keep our work efficient and meet tight school deadlines. Working as a team allows us to mix different ideas and think out of the box, coming up with unique visual styles and fun concepts that one person couldn't create alone. At the end of the day, it takes a whole team working together behind the scenes just to produce a single reel.”
